Leinster School’s Track and Field Championships, Santry

Day 1 of the Leinster School’s Track and Field Championships took place on Wednesday last with good selection of schools represented. Aoibhin McDonald and John Delaney were the stand out performances on day 1 with both winning their respective events with new PBs...and a CR for Aoibhin! Her Vault of 3.10m saw her claim victory and set both a new Championship Record and Personal Best. John Delaney also revised his PB to 50.50 when taking gold in the Inter Boys 400m. In the Inter Girls 1500m Rachel Ayers was just outside the medals, finishing in 7th place. Katie Baldwin was agonisingly close to the medals finishing in 4th place in the Senior Girls Triple Jump with a jump of 10.15m.

On the second day of competition St Abbans athletes were once again to the fore in their school colours. Our Shot Putters had a particularly brilliant day taking 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal. Abbie Delaney claimed gold in the Junior Girls Shot Putt with a throw of 9.97m. In the Junior Boys Shot Putt Joshua Crosby also claimed gold with a throw of 12.13m while Laszio Tohfalusi finished in 7th place. Rachel Hartnett was next up in the U16 Shot Putt where she secured a silver medal with a best throw of 7.15m. The final gold medal of the day was in the U16 Boys Shot Putt where Fionnan Brennan’s 12.56m saw him take the victory. In the Minor Girls 75m Hurdles Katie Hartnett finished in 3rd place to secure a bronze medal. Laura Ayers won a silver medal in the Minor Girls 800m and the final medal of the day came from Rachel Dooley in the U16 Girls Long Jump. Rachel won a bronze medal with a jump of 4.46m. Rachel Hartnett was also in action in the U16 Girls 200m where she finished in 5th place. Wil Duffy just missed out on a medal in the U16 Boys Mile where he finished in 4th place. Cormac Dineen was unlucky in the Inter Boys 2000m Walk where too many rule infringements saw him receive a red card. Well done to all on their excellent performances, and congrats to those who qualified for the All-Ireland Schools which will take place on the June Bank Holiday Weekend.
